Free, open-source alternatives to 4K Video Downloader Plus

4K Video Downloader Plus saves videos from YouTube and other streaming sites to your disk, including whole playlists and channels, audio-only files and subtitles. The open-source apps below do the same core job on the Mac, and all of them rely on the yt-dlp project to fetch the media.

Arroxy adds a built-in browser for finding videos and signing in to sites, along with download profiles and partial downloads. Parabolic and Open Video Downloader are queue-based front ends where you paste links and pick formats and quality. TBD keeps to a single field and picks up video links from the clipboard.
