Paint.NET for Mac
An image and photo editor with layers, unlimited undo, effects and plugin support, sitting between basic paint apps and pro tools. It has no macOS version.
Paint.NET started as a replacement for the Paint app in Windows and became an image and photo editor with layers, unlimited undo, adjustments, effects and community plugins. It is made for Windows PCs only.
Pinta is the closest in spirit: it began as an open-source clone of Paint.NET and keeps a similar layout, with layers, effects and unlimited undo, though it uses GTK rather than native Mac controls. Seashore is a native, layer-based editor that keeps the toolset small and approachable. GIMP covers the same ground with far more depth, including advanced selections, retouching tools and its own plugin ecosystem, at the cost of a busier interface.
