Kompakt

Kompakt waits in the menu bar until you start dragging a media file, then shows a drop target at the edge of the screen. Dropping a PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, SVG or MP4/MOV video optimises it in place, and a second area converts between common image formats or turns MOV and M4V clips into MP4, with a before-and-after size readout.

Settings are deliberately few: lossless or smaller lossy output, optional downscaling of videos to 1080p or 720p, and whether results replace the original. The project describes itself as early, with folder watching and Finder actions on its roadmap; disk images are on the GitHub releases page.
