About QuickLook Video
QuickLook Video teaches Finder about media files that macOS cannot open on its own. Matroska, WebM, AVI, Windows Media, Ogg, Flash Video and other containers, along with codecs such as VP9, AV1 and Theora, get thumbnails, Quick Look previews and metadata in the Get Info window.
The app installs a Spotlight extension and media extensions that plug these formats into the system frameworks, much as Perian once did for QuickTime. The README states GPL version 2 or later. Disk images are published on GitHub, and the developer also distributes it through the Mac App Store.
