About Open Dictation
Open Dictation records from a microphone while you hold or toggle a global shortcut, transcribes the clip, and pastes the text where your cursor is. Whisper runs on the Mac by default, with optional local Parakeet models; cloud transcription through OpenAI, Groq or another compatible endpoint is available if you prefer it.
On MacBooks with a notch, recording status appears in a small panel around it; other displays get audio cues instead. A personal dictionary and literal replacements help with names and jargon. The project lists macOS 14 and an Apple silicon Mac as requirements, and publishes a DMG on its GitHub releases page.
