Local AI apps

These apps run AI models on your Mac rather than on a remote server: chat with language models, transcribe speech, generate or upscale images. Because the processing happens locally, your prompts and files can stay on your computer.

Model size decides what your Mac can run, so check memory requirements and whether an app is optimised for Apple silicon, for example through MLX or Core ML. Some apps can also connect to cloud providers; check which features stay local and which do not.
